Dr. Angus MacDonald

Dr. Angus MacDonald is well-decorated within the piping world, having won multiple gold medals--in both the piobaireachd and MSR (Marches/Strathspeys/Reels) repertoires--at the prestigious Oban and Inverness competitions. And all this despite a demanding day job, as a practicing physician on the Isle of Skye.

In 1981, MacDonald founded the Feis Bharraigh, a highly successful annual festival celebrating Gaelic arts and culture, from the Gaelic language and music to drama and literature. The very next year, he moved to the Celtic music capital of Canada--Cape Breton, Nova Scotia--where he lived for 12 years.

Piping talent runs in Angus MacDonald’s family; brother Iain and Allan are also well-known pipers. Iain, for example, has been a member of the renowned trad groups Ossian and the Battlefield Band.
